M.E.F.F.A - What It Stands For
|
|
M.E.F.F.A seems to lend itself to multiple meanings. It started out as the Monday Evening Fly & Flee Association after we had some polite ejections from promising flying locations. "It's perfectly ok to fly model airplanes in this park, but there is a county law aginst using radio control devices in any park in our county," said the Park Ranger. At Jockey Ridge State Park in NC, I was told by 2 park employees in the information center that flying RC sailplanes has never been allowed. However, their literature describes how the park is regularly used to fly hang gliders, kites, and (RC) model airplanes. These sailplanes lend themselves to flying by the side of a country road over open pastures. On one occasion, a pickup truck passed by while the rc flyer had a sailplane way up in a thermal and not easily noticed. Just the guy with the silver antenna in his hand, standing at the side of the road, and staring out at the field. About 20 minutes later the pickup truck passed by again. A teenage voice called out, "It doesn't matter how long you stand there, you ain't gonna catch no fish!" This resulted in speculation that M.E.F.F.A is the Monday Electronic Field Fishing Association. Lately, the M.E.F.F.A pilots and their wives have been going out to dinner in a great local Italian restaurant. Therefore, M.E.F.F.A could stand for Monday Evening Fly & Feast Association. If you have any tasteful suggestions about what M.E.F.F.A might stand for, please let us know. Your submissions will be posted here and you will be given credit for them. |
